FAMOUS MISSOURIANS: RESEARCH &
BOTTLE BUDDY PROJECT

Adapted from Mrs. Umphrey

There are many famous people who have come from Missouri. The Governor of Missouri has asked 4th graders from several towns to research these famous individuals and to create a museum of Famous Missourian statues.

It is your task to choose a famous Missourian and research their life. You can find your information using the Internet, encyclopedias (electronic or standard), and other written documents. The report must contain the following information about the famous Missourian:

Name

Time Period of their life

Place they lived

Personality traits that describe them

Background information

Obstacle they faced

Significance of their life to Missouri

Quotation from them

First, Choose a famous Missourian from the list: Famous Missourians

Second, gather your information on the Student Response Sheet (Print one copy to collect your research)
Sites where information can be found on Famous Missourians.

Famous Missourian Resource list
Hall of Famous Missourians
Web List of Famous Missourians

Third, you will type your information gathered on your Student Response Sheet using the BIO Cube online resource and print 2 copies.

Finally, you will complete the Bottle Buddy Project below.

BOTTLE BUDDY PROJECT
Bottle Buddy (Biography Bottle) activity is from The Big Missouri Reproducible Activity Book! by Carole Marsh.

Bottle buddies are 2 or 3 liter bottles, emptied and cleaned. They are then decorated to look like your assigned famous Missourian. They can represent someone from the past or the present such as Harry S. Truman, George Washington Carver, or Mark McGuire.  The bottle can be decorated with an actual picture of the famous Missourians face attached to the top of the bottle by the threads. You can add yarn for hair, eyebrows, and mustache. The bottom of the bottles can be just plain, or you can add shoes/feet.

Here are some suggested items you may want to use to help you:
2 or 3 liter bottles, scissors, glue, felt, balloon or styrofoam ball for head, paint, yarn for hair.
JUST BE CREATIVE!
