Objective:
- Use an organizer to prewrite.
- Write a newpaper editorial for a real audience.
|
Time: 2- 60 minute sessions
|
Materials:
- Student Computers
- SMART board
- Microsoft Word
- Printer
|
Procedure:
Day 1
- Ask the students what sections there are in a newspaper.
- Discuss what an editorial is
- Show the editorial from the Springfield Newspaper in the Student Resources.
- Give directions for the contest.
- Students read the Student Example in the Student Resources.
- Take the information from the example and put it in a four square.
- Students chose a topic and write it in a four square.
- Begin typing editorial in Microsoft Office.
- Save to the G: drive
Day 2
- Show how to use the word count tool.
- Students finish typing editorial.
- Switch computers and edit with a partner.
- Print a copy of the editorial for the contest.
